Founded in 2006 to provide scientific and strategic direction to agencies, industry, academia and advocacy, SolaMed Solutions LLC has evolved into a premier firm in commercial space medicine operations, including Concept of Operations (CONOPS), advisory services and educational outreach.

STAC / SEAT

The SolaMed Space Technical Advisory Council (STAC) and the SolaMed Space Educational Alliance Trust (SEAT) provide strategic guidance and technical expertise. These entities consist of former NASA officials and leading experts in space medicine, education, technology, ethics and policy, ensuring our firm remains at the forefront of innovation.

Chief Executive Officer

Saralyn Mark, MD

Saralyn Mark, MD, FAMWA, is an expert in space medicine, women’s health, endocrinology, and geriatrics. As President and CEO of SolaMed Solutions, LLC and its space subsidiary, she advises organizations and agencies including NASA (for over 18 years), HHS, and the White House on health and space-related policies and programs. Dr. Mark is also President of iGIANT®, the only nonprofit accelerating gendered innovation/precision design in the world. She was the Director of Health Innovation for Star Harbor and a Strategic Advisor for Human Health and Performance for the Charles F. Bolden Group. She holds four academic appointments including at Yale and King’s College-London in the Centre for Human Health and Aerospace Physiology. Dr. Mark authored Stellar Medicine: A Journey Through the Universe of Women’s Health and is a regular contributor to media outlets, and hosts the podcast, Always Searching.

Chief Operating Officer

Charles Doarn, MBA

Charles Doarn, MBA, served as an expert in aerospace and telemedicine in NASA’s Office of the Chief Health and Medical Officer for over 33 years as well as the co-chair of the Federal Telehealth Working Group. He currently serves as the founding director of the University of Cincinnati  (UC) Armstrong Institute for Space, Technology and Research (ASTRO). Additionally,  he is an emeritus Professor at UC College of Medicine with academic appointments at Wright State University and George Washington University. A prolific writer and Editor-in-Chief of the e-health journal, Telemedicine,  he has published 9 books and over 525 manuscripts. Mr. Doarn has worked with NATO, the Department of Defense and other agencies and organizations on health policy issues in extreme environments.

Priti Kaur, MBA

Priti Kaur, MBA, CFO for SolaMed Solutions, founded nephAnalytics which redefines healthcare operations and clinical trials, empowering providers to achieve precision, efficiency, and better outcomes. With over 25 years of experience in finance, Information Technology and operational management, her expertise spans multiple industries, including consulting, biopharmaceuticals, real estate, and business intelligence, each contributing to her ability to streamline operations and improve outcomes. She began her career in financial consulting, working with Anderson Consulting (now Accenture). Her leadership roles include serving as COO of nephCentric, iGIANT, and as the CEO of Renibus Therapeutics. Ms. Kaur’s ability to uncover meaningful insights from data, combined with her collaborative and visionary leadership, has been the cornerstone of her success.

Chief Health and Safety Officer

Alex Dunlap, MD, DVM

Alexander Dunlap, DVM, MD, NASA’s Chief Veterinarian for over 16 years, was an Alternative Payload Specialist for the Space Shuttle (STS-90) NeuroLab.  Dr. Dunlap practiced private veterinary medicine while serving as a BioSpecimen Sharing Program team member, a project veterinarian during SpaceLab Life Sciences-1 (STS-40), and as a veterinary surgeon at the Dryden Landing Site for NIH-R2 (STS-70).  After graduating from the University of Tennessee School of Medicine in 1996,  Dr. Dunlap began practicing Emergency Medicine in addition to serving as the Chief Veterinarian for NASA. He has provided biospecimen safety guidance and protection to the commercial space sector.

Chief Ethics Officer

Paul Root Wolpe, PhD

Paul Root Wolpe, PhD, is the Raymond Schinazi Distinguished Research Chair of Jewish Bioethics, Professor of Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Sociology, and Neuroscience and Biological Behavior. After 17 years as the Director for the Center for Ethics at Emory University, he is now the Founding Director of Emory’s Center for Peacebuilding and Conflict Transformation (PACT). A social scientist and ethicist by training, Dr. Wolpe spent 17 years as the first Senior Bioethicist for NASA. A thought leader nationally in ethics and president and fellow of several prestigious organizations, Dr. Wolpe is a founder of the field of neuroethics and was Editor-in-Chief of American Journal of Bioethics Neuroscience.

Director, Medical Operations

Marc O'Griofa, MD, PhD

Marc Ó Gríofa, MD, PhD, is a Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine, NOAA trained diving medical officer (DMO), aquanaut, pilot for Zero G, diver and principal investigator for the NASA NEEMO missions and Project CASPER. Dr. Ó Gríofa is also a biomedical engineer, a joint trauma and tactical medical instructor for special operations and as a director and founder of the Pyxis Institute, is passionate about promoting STEM education across all barriers using a mission-based approach.

Director, Health Innovation

Smith Johnston, MD

Dr. Smith Johnston served as a Medical Officer and Flight Surgeon in NASA’s Medical Operations Branch at the Johnson Space Center (JSC) for over 30 years. He was the lead physician for the ISS Emergency Medical System and Crew Return Vehicle development and supported 2 ISS expeditions and more than 25 Space Shuttle missions. He served as the Medical Director of the JSC Aerospace and Occupational Medicine Clinics and was the lead for NASA’s Astronaut Medical Selection and Retention Standards among many other boards. Following his esteemed NASA career, he joined Axiom Space as their Chief Medical Officer. As a Professor of Aerospace Medicine at UCF, an Emeritus Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Association, and an advisory board member for several organizations, Dr. Johnston advances the transfer of health innovation derived from the space program to meet the needs of terrestrial patients.

Michelle Hailey, PhD, MBA

H.E. Ambassador Dr. Michelle L. Hailey is an accomplished educator, global business professional, leadership trainer, speaker, and author . Appointed a Global Peace Ambassador to the United Nations, she is recognized for advancing leadership development worldwide.  Dr. Hailey has served as a global consultant in France, Korea, Peru, Dubai, and Kenya. She continues her global consultancy and serves as an adjunct professor at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology and received her MBA in International Business from the Schiller International University in Paris, France.

Debbi Shapiro

Debbi Shapiro co-founded Henderson Shapiro, Inc. 30 years ago to deliver an “in-house” agency approach for corporate and healthcare clients. Her expertise spans human and animal healthcare, medical innovation, technology, and patient engagement. The agency’s portfolio includes Fortune 500 companies, state contracts, and a federal contract with the Department of Defense/Army National Guard. Debbi served on the American Red Cross Board for 10 years and the Arthritis Foundation Board for 12 years, earning numerous national and local business awards.

Seth Gordon

Seth Gordon is a seasoned marketing strategist with 25 years of experience at Henderson Shapiro, Inc. He excels in cultivating and maintaining strong agency-client relationships, and has led both internal and client teams across healthcare, technology, higher education, and start-up initiatives in satellite communications, semiconductors, and post-quantum cryptography. Seth played a key role in securing over 60 industry awards for strategy, messaging, branding, and design.

Noah Jones

Noah Jones, an award-winning journalist, has hosted and produced podcasts for Audible, the University of Wisconsin School of Human Ecology, entrepreneurs and local news organizations. His podcasts have reached more than 500,000 downloads. His story-telling expertise has inspired audiences across the globe. He graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in journalism.
