Our founder and CEO, Dr. Saralyn Mark, recently participated in a special livestreamed presentation for the American Center in Moscow’s “50 States” series, where she represented her home state of Colorado.
The weekly series, running throughout 2026, invites American experts to share the unique cultural, historical, and everyday character of each U.S. state with audiences abroad — covering everything from local food and music to notable figures and landmarks. As a third-generation Coloradoan, Dr. Mark was a natural choice to speak on behalf of the Centennial State.
Joining her for the conversation was Dr. Kevin Cevasco, PhD, MBA, an epidemiologist and public health researcher who has called Colorado home for the past four years. Together, they explored what makes Colorado distinctive — its mountains, outdoor culture, and reputation for healthy living — while also weaving in personal stories that reflect the immigrant experiences so many Colorado families share. Dr. Mark spoke about her own family’s journey, including great-grandparents who immigrated from Russia shortly after Colorado achieved statehood, and her father, who survived four concentration camps before settling in a state that reminded him of his hometown in Transylvania.
Beyond the personal history, the discussion touched on Dr. Mark’s professional work as an endocrinologist, geriatrician, and women’s health specialist, as well as her recent appointment by Governor Polis as a Colorado eHealth Commissioner — a role focused on ensuring equitable healthcare access across the state’s diverse geography, from rural prairies and ranches to mountain communities and urban centers.
